San Diego Day 2

Day 2 of my San Diego trip 2011

Jim and I went to our first workshop together. It was “Time/Self Management. The presenter was J. Dan Boulton from Great Commission Publications. His scripture references were Eph 5:15-16 – making the most of your time, Gal. 6:7-10 – God is not mocked, whatever a man sows, this he will reap, I Peter 1:17-19 – the Father judges each man’s work, Ecc. 3:1-8 – there is a time/season for everything. I really was challenged to buy a Day Timer and plan not just for the immediate but even a year from now, five years from now, etc.

The second workshop Jim and I split up. He went to a Worship workshop and I went to “Take Jesus to Them! The Most Effective Outreach Strategy” workshop. The speaker, Rachel Beaver, was the founder of House of Faith Ministries. She has a passion for taking Jesus to neighborhood children. ChildrensOutreachSolutions.com has all of her materials to run a neighborhood Bible club. This gave me good information for our summer VBS this year. We are going to three neighborhoods and taking VBS to children who would probably never come to church.

Brunch and General Session Two started at 10:30. The main speaker was Britt Merrick. He told of his early years as a surfer. Britt and his close friends started a church called Reality. It now has five campuses and one in London. Britt got our attention and our hearts when he told us about his little five year old girl that had a cancerous tumor the size of a Nerf football. She had chemo and radiation and later had another tumor. She is in remission now. Britt said that if she has another episode she will most likely die. He questioned God but never turned away from his faith. Britt said that whether his little girl lived or died it would not change his love for Jesus. His little girl said, “That’s my daddy.” He loves me but he loves God more. It was a tear jerker.

At 1:30, I attended the workshop by GO FISH. It was called “Taking It To The Streets..” That’s exactly what we plan to do this summer with SonRock Kids’ Camp VBS. The speaker, David Holmes, is a children’s pastor from First Baptist Church in Orlando. He stopped a very successful, very expensive VBS at his church because it was mainly reaching church kids. He wanted to reach the lost. His methods were outlined and a good model to follow.

At 3:00 we were free for the rest of the day. We napped and went to dinner that evening at Kelly’s. Just the two of us. It was nice to have a little breather in the busy schedule.
