You will understand my title when you read my next post. Sandy, Chris' mom, invited us to spend Thanksgiving with their family in Wheaton this year. Jim and I were very happy to spend time with Erin and Chris this year since we were not going to our usual destination, Pokagon State Park.
We cancelled our reservations when AJ began a new middle school club at church on Wednesday evenings. The Friday after Thanksgiving he took the teens along with several chaperones to the Superbowl. It is a fun event that lasts all night.
So Jim and I made our traditional pea salad Wednesday night and baked a pumpkin pie to take with us. We arrived at Erin's condo on Thanksgiving at 1:00 and got to play with our grandpuppies, Baxter and Betty, until Erin's sweet potato casserole finished baking.
The four of us (Baxter and Betty stayed home)arrived at Art and Sandy's around 2:00. We were greeted by several extended family members and all enjoyed a great meal together. Afterwards we played Apples to Apples. It is a fun game especially for a large group. Later that evening after everyone had gone home except for immediate family, we each took kernels of corn and told what we were thankful for this year. This is a Hillebrand tradition that we shared with the Hacks.
The next day we went to the little town of Geneva and browsed through a craft mall. I made two purchases...a small colander for washing cherry tomatoes and an alphabetical business card organizer. My life goal is to be organized!
That evening we walked the streeets of Naperville and looked at Christmas lights and hung out at a bookstore while waiting for a table at Lumilnatis. They have the best pizza in Chicago.
Saturday we hugged goodbye (several times) and headed home with a truck full of furniture that Erin and Chris want us to store for them until they get a house.
It was a great weekend and I loved being with the Hack's. All of them. Chris has a very warm and friendly family. I want them to all move to Indiana someday.
